The farm electrician · Southern Tier NY & Northern PA
Your farm's electrician, from the main panel to the milk house.
I'm an electrician who works on farms only. On a service plan, I come out before every season to catch problems before they cost you. I also inspect barns with a heat camera, fix what's broken, build control panels for silo and feed equipment, keep off-grid solar and wind running, and wire new barns from the ground up.
Penn College trained · 15 years as an industrial foreman · Ran my own service company · My background →
Most barn fires aren't lightning. They're a loose wire or a worn-out breaker heating up for months — until one night it catches.
Service plans
Things break when they've sat all season and then get pushed hard: the first cold snap, the first hot day, the first big outage. On a plan, I check it before it breaks. I book your dates for the whole year, and every visit ends with a written report.
Every plan: no trip charges, visit dates booked for the whole year, 5–10% off repair labor. Pay for the year or monthly. See what's in each plan →
Just need the winter barn check? $150 on its own, or $450 with a generator test on the same visit. Whatever you pay for a single check is credited toward any yearly plan.
Not sure what you need? The first visit is free. I'll walk your barn and tell you which plan fits, or if you don't need one. Call or text (607) 354-1012.
Stray voltage testing
Cows balking at the parlor, lapping at the water, or not milking out, and nobody can say why? It could be stray voltage. It's hard to find someone around here who tests for it. I do.
- Readings where cows drink, eat and milk, with a written pass/fail report for you and your vet
- Your side or the power company's? I find out, and give you readings you can hand them
- The fix, priced before I start, and a re-test to show it worked
How it works
- Call or text Tell me what's going on — a problem, a plan, an inspection, or a building project.
- Free visit I walk your barn and tell you what I'd do and what it costs. No pressure.
- The work Scheduled around milking and chores. You decide what gets done.

Why Preston's?
In 1881, Michael Preston opened a store in Canton, PA where farmers traded eggs and butter for what they needed. My grandfather Phil Preston later ran our family's feed mill there for twenty years. Now it's a family business again, carrying that name — and the trust that comes with it. Read the family story →
